2008 Eureka Division Champions!
2009 18-3 Independent Schedule

Team Uniform - Blue socks and belt - Grey pants

There will not be a Collegiate Rhinos Team 2011. There are not enough coaches to field all of the teams in the Rhinos organization. The Collegiate Team was designed for past Rhinos players to return after entering college. The Rhinos Organization operates on a minimal budget and needs volunteers to continue to offer the opportunity for the large number of baseball players interested in playing. To volunteer, email your Bio to larhinos.org@gmail.com.

2010 Notes from the Coach:

7/26/2010: The Rhinos lose another 1 run game to the Thrashers 11-10. More to come....

Next up East L.A. Dodgers, Wednesday July 28, 5:00pm @ Southwest.

7/23/2010: The Rhinos have a really long 2nd inning giving up 15 runs to lose 16-5. More to come....

7/19/2010: The Azusa Pirates were unable to field a team so the game was cancelled.

7/16/2010: The Rhinos swept the season series (5-0) with the Azusa Pirates by winning 8-2. Teddy Smoyer pitched 5 scoreless to earn the win. Matt Toczynski had 2 hits and 2 RBI for a team leading 22 on the season. Brett Hockenberry added a walk, single and triple for 2 RBI.

7/13/2010: The Rhinos split the season series avenging the earlier loss by beating the Citrus Drillers 3-1. Jared Levin earned the win and threw 5 fantastic innings allowing only 1 hit to his next to last batter he faced. Andrew Trevino pitched the next 2 and Brett Hockenberry pitched a scoreless 8th and 9th. Working his way out of a bases loaded no-out situation in the 8th and finding his rythym in the 9th, "Hock" earned his 5th save of the season. Bryce Holland and Kevin Schulemson were the hot bats reaching safely 7 times with a sac fly combined. Teddy Smoyer was 3-4 on base and an RBI and Tucker Mabee added a double.

7/12/2010: The Rhinos took their 4th straight against the Azusa Pirates winning 10-7. The Pirate bats were hot hitting 3 homeruns including back to back in the 7th inning. Parker Cain pitched a perfect 1 1/3 inning to setup Rob Rosenberg for his first save closing out the 9th on 3 popups. Jacob Mayoral continued his hot hitting going 3-4 with 3 RBI. Tucker Mabee and Bryce Holland each had RBI triples.
7/9/2010: After a 10 day break the "rusty" Rhinos hold off to beat East L.A. Dodgers Blue 5-4 to sweep the season series. A "pitch by committee" day after the layoff kept the Dodgers off balance for most of the game. Anfrew Trevino got the win and Brett Hockenberry records the save. Matt Toczynski was 3-4 with a double and the eventual game winning RBI, Jake Mayoral picked up where he left off with 2 hits and Tucker Mabee added a single and triple.

6/28/2010: After taking a 6 run lead the Rhinos hold off Easton Elite for a 9-8 victory in 8 innings. Rhinos took advantage of 5 free passes in the first 2 innings scoring 4 of them. Offensive leader was Jacob Mayoral going 4-4 including the game winning 2 RBI triple. Andrew Trevino worked the 7th inning for the win and Brett Hockenberry got the save. Hockenberry also was 4-4 on base with 3 walks and a single and 3 runs scored. Teddy Smoyer also added a hit. The Rhinos get a 10 day break before taking on the East L.A. Dodgers.

6/25/2010: Another 9th inning comeback fell 90' short in the 2-1 loss to the Thrashers. In the 8th inning the Thrashers took a 1 run lead and the Rhinos loaded the bases with 1 out and could not get the tying run across. Teddy Smoyer pitched 6 strong allowing an unearned run and Jeff Brach finished the last 3 innings but took the loss. The Thrashers only had 5 hits but put them together to take the victory. Once again, 2 outstanding outfield defensive plays at key points in the game took away Rhinos scoring opportunities. The win gives the season edge at this point to the Thrashers 2-1. Rhinos have 2 more games against the Thrashers in July at Occidental.

6/24/2010: The Rhinos come from behind in the 9th to beat the Azusa Pirates 2-1. On a day when every ball hit by Rhinos found it's way into a Pirates glove, the magic wore off in the 9th inning. First a line drive single up the middle by Bryce Holland tied the game scoring Ryon Cobb. Then a flaring fly ball fair by inches down the right field line by Garrett Champion scored Brett Hockenberry as Holland was gunned out at the plate to end the inning. Jordan Fasheh was outstanding through 7 innings allowing only 1 run but left the game trailing 1-0. Andrew Trevino pitched a scoreless 8th and was awarded the win while Hockenberry came in the bottom of the 9th with the lead man on to close the game and earn the save.

6/21/2010: The Rhinos take the early lead and never looked back to beat the Pirates 12-2. Outstanding pitching through the entire game and a virtual flawless defensive performance. It was 3-2 after 6 complete when the Rhino bats exploded for 9 runs in the final 3 frames.

6/18/2010: The Rhinos used a 4 run 4th inning to hang on and beat the Outlaws 5-4. Jordan Fasheh pitched 6 solid innings allowing just 2 runs for the win. Jeff Brach struggled in the 7th but found his zone and slammed the door in the 8th while Brett Hockenberry pitched the 9th to get his first save. With 1 out in the 4th the Rhinos lined 5 consecutive hits to get 4 runs. RBI hits came from Garrett Champion, Will Kollmeyer and Teddy Smoyer. Tucker Mabee had what was eventually the game winning RBI double in the 6th to go with a perfect sac bunt and also reached twice by error.

6/16/2010: The Rhinos lose to Thrashers in the bottom of the 9th inning 9-10. A shortage of players contributed to a difficult situation. Rhinos battled back twice before falling in the 9th. Offensive standout was clearly Kevin Shulemson who was 4-5 with 2 doubles and 5 RBI taking the lead in the 7th and tying the game in the 9th. Will Kollmeyer was 2-4 with 2 RBI and Garrett Champion added 2 hits. After a tough outing Monday, Jake Miknuk pitched 2 solid innings allowing only 1 hit.

6/14/2010: The Rhinos stumbled to 4-2 with a 10-11 loss to the Citrus Drillers. After taking a 7-1 lead after 2 innings, the Rhinos fell apart defensively making several errors giving away the lead in the 3rd. Offensive highlights include a triple and 3 RBI for Matt Toczynski, 2 RBI by Tyler Weed and Teddy Smoyer and Brett Hockenberry each walked 3 times. A couple late inning outstanding outfield plays by Citrus prevented a Rhino comeback. Jeff Brach pitched 3 2/3 innings allowing just 1 hit.

6/11/2010: The Rhinos pitching was outstanding and improved to 4-1 with a 6-1 victory over the Thrashers. Jared Levin started and pitched 4 strong innings allowing 3 hits with 6 strikeouts. Andrew Trevino tossed the next 4 allowing 2 hits and no runs while Mark Reynoso closed the 9th. Kevin Schulemson and Tucker Mabee each had 2 RBI on a double and a single.

6/9/2010: The Rhinos bounced back and improved to 3-1 with a 10-4 victory over a very solid East L.A. Dodgers (white) team. Another outstanding pitching performance kept the Dodgers off balance and spread their hits around combined with an almost flawless defense. Timely clutch hitting by the Rhinos was the main key to the victory. Jordan Fasheh pitched 4 solid innings and was credited with the win. Jeff Brach and Jake Miknuk held down the middle innings and Brett Hockenberry closed the final 2 innings. Offensively Matt Toczynski put on an exhibition with a 5 RBI performance including 2 doubles. Ryon Cobb was a perfect 4-4 on base with 2 hits and 2 walks and Brett Hockinberry beat out his 3rd routine groundball to an infielder for a hit and scored 3 times with a couple stolen bases. Will Kollmeyer also had a double and a single.

6/7/2010: If it could go wrong, It Did! A sloppy defensive performance by the Rhinos led to 5 unearned runs in the 1st inning and it was downhill from there. From unusual umpire rulings to broken bat hits finding holes, it was just "one of those games"! The high point of the game was that the pitching staff performed well allowing just 3 earned runs. Offensive highlights include a 2 RBI triple by Brown and another 2 RBI from Champion. Toczynski had 2 hits and an RBI while Hockenberry had a hit and 2 stolen bases. The 10-6 loss was the first for the Rhinos (2-1) this season. The game was called after 8 innings due to darkness.

6/4/2010: Collegiate Rhinos advanced to 2-0 with a 14-2 victory over the East L.A. Dodgers. Triples by Kollmeyer and Toczynski led the power hitting. Rhinos combined for 16 hits with Shulemson getting 3 hits. Toczynski with 4 RBI and Champion with 3 RBI porvided clutch hitting. The Rhinos used 6 pitchers to combine for 2 runs on 3 hits. Jordan Fasheh was credited with the win after another 2 scoreless innings. The Rhinos begin a stretch of 3 games per week for the next few weeks.

6/1/2010: Collegiate Rhinos came from behind in their season opener to beat Azusa Pacific 9-8 on Toczynski's 2 RBI single up the middle in the top of the 9th inning. Fasheh started and threw 2 strong innings while Smoyer shut down the 8th and 9th innings for the win. Hockenberry started the 9th inning rally with a double to the gap in left center with 2 out. A walk and HBP loaded up the bases for Toczynski's game winning hit. Brown and Riva each also had 2 RBI, while Smoyer and Hockenberry each added 2 hits.
